History

For a major event, SkiDay certainly had humble beginnings. It began over 30 years ago as a means of promoting water ski sales for a now defunct local sporting goods store. A few friends in a small runabout boated around the Ohio River giving away soft drinks to other boaters along with a chance to win a slalom water ski. Someone said, “Before we give away this ski, let’s have a bikini contest!” At that moment, SkiDay on the Ohio was born.

Now over 500 watercraft deliver thousands of people to SkiDay according to water patrol and press estimates. The crafts include personal watercraft, sport boats, deck boats, cruisers, houseboats, and yachts.
